We are excited to advertise a new role within Critical Care for a Senior Specialist Occupational Therapist to join this dynamic and collaborative multi-disciplinary team. The role is part time up to a maximum of 30 hours, this is negotiable, but we’d require a minimum of 3 days.

We are a 16 bedded critical care unit that takes a mix of level 2 and 3 patients. We have a full team of anaesthetists, nurses, ACCP’s, Physiotherapists, Psychologists, and support from SLT and Dietetics.

The unit has a very active research team and are very keen to include AHP’s within this.

The in-patient therapy service has a great reputation and has some of the highest staff satisfaction scores in the organisation. We strive for high standards, support staff in their career aspirations through training and development both in house and with external providers.

The candidate will be part of the large respiratory therapy team, that comprises of all bands of staff in qualified and support worker roles. They provide a 7-day service and the successful candidate will be expected to be contribute to weekend working (approx 1 weekend every 5-6 weeks).

Main duties of the job

It is anticipated that the role will be split between assessing and treating the rehabilitation needs of patients on Critical Care, providing meaningful goal orientated rehabilitation, splinting and cognitive / delirium management.

The successful candidate will follow the patients onto the in-patient wards and work alongside the ward teams to ensure that the patient’s rehabilitation continues when stepped down from critical care.

They will be part of the monthly ICU follow up clinics, signposting and supporting the rehabilitation needs following their hospital stay. They will work within the Respiratory and Critical care in-patient therapy team and support the team with complex tracheostomy discharges from our acute respiratory care unit.

The unit also has 2 ICU burns beds which may require the candidate to support the specialist burns MDT with non-burns therapy as well as the wider respiratory team to supervise less experienced staff.
