About us

The Microfaculty is based in Chingford East London. We are a well‑established, friendly teaching practice, and our dedicated team includes our senior GP partner, 1 practice nurse, 1 HCA and admin/support staff. We have been providing a full range of GP services for over 30 years and have a patient list size of 4500 patients. As a teaching practice, we have a GP registrar with us. We are situated in a purpose‑built health centre close to local amenities.

Job Responsibilities

  • Make yourself available to undertake surgery consultations, telephone consultations, home visits, issue repeat prescriptions, and deal with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion.
  • Make professional autonomous decisions regarding presenting problems, whether self‑referrals or referrals within the Practice.
  • Receive patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems and assess their health‑care needs.
  • Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
  • Develop care plans in consultation with patients and in line with current Practice disease‑management protocols.
  • Provide counselling and health education.
  • Prescribe in accordance with the Integrated Care Board (ICB) prescribing formulary when clinically appropriate.
  • Admit or discharge patients to/from your caseload and refer them to other care providers internally or externally as appropriate.
  • Comply with relevant Practice policy/guidelines, e.g. Child Protection, Safeguarding and confidentiality issues.
  • Commit to lifelong learning, audit and evidence‑based practice.
  • Maintain GMC registration and ensure continuous Medical Defence cover.
  • Ensure inclusion on a local Performers list.

Other responsibilities within the Practice:

  • Consult with patients in surgery and at home visits as agreed internally between all partners.
  • Be available for on‑call duties to answer telephone queries or carry out emergency home visits or surgery consultations as appropriate.
  • Contribute to evaluation/audit and clinical standard setting with colleagues.
  • Record clear and contemporaneous I.T.‑based consultation notes to agreed standards.
  • Comply and issue computer‑generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand‑written prescriptions whenever possible).
  • Undertake all normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.
  • Contribute to strategic management and development of Practice (e.g. developing and contributing to Policy and Guidelines).
  • Attend training, Practice meetings and events organised by the Practice or other agencies where appropriate.
  • Meet all tight timescales/deadlines for audits and written returns to ensure the Practice meets quality standards and receives designated funding (e.g. Quarterly Enhanced Services returns, annual QOF audit).
  • Maintain full accreditation (full & unrestricted GMC registration, membership of a recognised Medical Defence organisation, annual evidence for appraisal/accreditation).
  • Commit to lifelong learning and audit to ensure evidence‑based best practice.

Infection Control:

  • Be aware of principles of preventing healthcare‑acquired infections by aseptic technique/cleaning.
  • Carry out procedures safely following best practice and infection control policies.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of safe practice with regards to infection control.
  • Follow PHE guidance on infectious disease notification.

Confidentiality:

  • Understand, accept and adhere to the need for strict confidentiality when handling patient information.
  • Respect patient privacy, dignity, needs and beliefs, and avoid unauthorized disclosure of confidential information.

Health & Safety:

  • Be aware of responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act (1974) and promote a safe environment.
  • Assist in maintaining personal and others' health, safety and security as defined in the Practice policy.
  • Use personal security systems within the workplace according to guidelines.
  • Identify risks and manage work activities accordingly.
  • Use appropriate infection control procedures and keep work areas tidy and hazard‑free.
  • Take advantage of training to update knowledge and skills.

  • Maintain continued education, attend courses or study days to meet professional development requirements.

  • Participate in Significant Event Analysis reviews.
  • Assess own performance and take accountability.
  • Contribute to team effectiveness and suggest improvements.
  • Work effectively with other agencies to meet patient needs.
  • Manage own time, workload and resources efficiently.

Communication:

  • Communicate effectively with team members, patients and carers.
  • Recognise needs for alternative communication methods and respond accordingly.

Flexibility:

  • Be flexible about duties undertaken and location of work as required by the Practice.

Contribution to the Implementation of Services:

  • Apply Practice policies, standards and guidance.
  • Discuss with team how policies affect own work.
  • Participate in audit where appropriate.
  • Work with partner and management to achieve quality, performance, budgets and targets without compromising patient care.
  • Contribute to developing and implementing new standards, policies and procedures required by GP practices.

Person Specification

  • Must have a successful Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Check.

Experience

  • An understanding of patient‑centred approaches to care.
  • Friendly and approachable manner/good people skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with patients and with clinical and non‑clinical staff.
  • Good organisational skills.
  • Competence in management of patient list.
  • Management of clinical paperwork for patients.
  • Ability to be a flexible and cooperative team member.
  • Evidence of continuing professional and personal development, including recent GP appraisal.
  • Previous experience of using SystmOne (training will be provided if no experience).
  • Understanding of current issues affecting primary care.

Qualifications

  • GMC Registration.
  • Registered on the National Medical performers List.
  • Membership of a recognised Medical Defence organisation.
  • Degree in Medicine.
  • CCT in General Practice on a GMC approved course.
  • MRCGP.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
