Here at the Mick George Group we are currently recruiting an Operations Manager for the Western District to join the Concrete department covering our concrete plants.

Working Hours: Monday – Friday 7am-5pm. Saturdays as Required

Role Purpose: Implement and oversee MG Concrete’s compliance with company policies and procedures by ensuring adherence to legal requirements and integrated management standards (ISO 9001, 14001, 45001). Maintain product quality to BS8500 specifications, promote safe and efficient working practices, support sustainability initiatives, and develop staff through mentoring to enhance their skills, competence, and confidence.

Responsibilities:

  • Management of the implementation of Group and MG Concrete policies and procedures (health and safety, environmental and other)
  • Ensure all concrete plants are working efficiently and within budget
  • Ensure H&S on all operational sites is of the highest standard
  • Ensuring all sites are working to BS8500 for Ready mix
  • Health and Safety Audits, Investigations and Improvements
  • Audit / inspection of site arrangements to confirm that systems have been implemented and are being maintained and that safe working arrangements are in place
  • Raising Improvement Logs where non-conformances, corrective actions and opportunities for improvement are noted
  • Training staff in new and existing procedures and identifying requirements for individual training / mentoring
  • Monitoring and assisting with the close out of MG Concrete Improvement Logs on Activ
  • Leading / supporting site supervisors / managers in accident and incident investigation as required
  • Assisting the Concrete Operations Director in preparing Panel of Learning presentations
  • Working closely with the SHEQ team and other Operations Compliance Managers in the Group to support standardisation and shared learning
  • Attend the MGC Monthly Board meetings and give reports on any incidents that have occurred
  • Support ongoing collection of data from the business to support our Carbon Net Zero ambition and associated certifications / schemes
  • Maintain CPD through knowledge of industry and Group health and safety and sustainability developments
  • All Site inspections, to include Council, BSI, QSRMC, and Director level

Skills & Qualifications Required:

  • Valid UK driving licence (Category B or C depending on vehicle requirements)
  • Previous management experience in the Concrete Industry
  • Good knowledge of health and safety legislation and practice
  • Preparation of strong, concise presentations and reports
  • Experience of carrying out inspections / audits
  • Knowledge of ISO9001/14001 and 45001
  • Day to Day site experience (This is not an office job)
  • Methodical and flexible in approach to tasks
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Good problem-solving skills
  • Highly organised and ability to work in a pressurised environment
  • A pro-active team member
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
