The role

Are you passionate about the work of Methodist schools and a strong advocate for them? We are seeking an inspiring Chair for the Methodist Schools Committee, someone who can offer strategic direction, nurture relationships, and support the Methodist schools at a pivotal time.

About you

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is a member of the Methodist Church in Britain.
  • Has a strong understanding of, and the ability to articulate and communicate, a Methodist vision and ethos for education.
  • Has a strong grasp of the range of Methodist schools and their role within the life of The Methodist Church.
  • Has proven ability to offer effective strategic direction and oversight, balancing support and constructive challenge.
  • Is relational and collaborative, with an ability to bring different stakeholders together to work in a common cause.

This post carries an occupational requirement for the post holder to be a Christian (in accordance with the Equality Act 2010).

Duration

An initial three‑year term, with the possibility of extension for another term, up to six years in total.

Time Commitment

Normally four MSC meetings per year, with occasional attendance at Methodist Academies and Schools Trust (MAST) and Methodist Independent Schools Trust (MIST) committee meetings and the Connexional Council. The Chair typically liaises with the Director of Methodist State Schools, members of the Senior Management Group of the Connexional Team, Trustees, and key partners.
