Akari Care needs a Maintenance Operative for one of its homes for older people, working with the home manager and wider maintenance team. The role covers decoration, grounds, building repairs, supplies and utilities, and passing standards on to colleagues. It is hands-on work carried out around residents, so a considerate, approachable manner matters as much as the technical skills. Experience in a similar setting and knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems decide fit.
What the job involves
- Carry out internal decoration
- Maintain grounds and carry out safety checks outside the home
- Carry out building repairs
- Manage supplies for the home
- Maintain utilities
- Continually assess all areas of the home and give attention where needed
- Work with the home manager and maintenance team to keep high standards
- Share maintenance knowledge with colleagues so they meet the same standards
- Engage with and support residents in a respectful, approachable way that protects their dignity and security
Experience
- Experience of working in a similar environment
- Solid maintenance experience across building, DIY, cleaning and housekeeping
Skills & knowledge
- Technical knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems
- General knowledge of plumbing and joinery
- Innovative, solution-based approach to maintenance and repairs
- Flexible and adaptable to change at short notice
- Works well under pressure without affecting those around them
- Resilient and adaptable to the differing needs of colleagues and residents
