A six-month fixed-term consultant post with HealthHarmonie, a provider of community NHS services, bringing ENT care closer to patients' homes across several sites. The work centres on assessing and managing routine and moderately complex ear, nose and throat conditions, with outpatient diagnostics and selected commissioned day-case procedures. The post is distinct for its community setting, taking referrals from central triage and Tier 2 escalations rather than standard hospital ENT. Fit depends on GMC specialist registration and completed specialist ENT training.
What the job involves
- Assess and manage patients referred through central triage or escalated from Tier 2 services
- Carry out enhanced outpatient diagnostics, including nasendoscopy, otomicroscopy, audiovestibular testing and imaging review
- Make senior clinical decisions on uncertain diagnoses, persistent symptoms and cases needing specialist ENT assessment
- Manage moderately complex chronic ear disease, recurrent otitis, selected dry perforations, hearing loss and tinnitus, excluding tertiary otology
- Manage persistent nasal obstruction, chronic rhinosinusitis, uncomplicated nasal polyps and septal deviation, with definitive treatment where commissioned
- Manage persistent globus, benign tonsillar disease and low-risk dysphonia, including laryngeal examination
- Assess recurrent epistaxis needing enhanced specialist assessment or an agreed outpatient procedure
- Biopsy or excise known benign lesions within the commissioned ambulatory scope
- Perform commissioned low-risk ambulatory and day-case procedures, including septoplasty, grommets, selected myringoplasty, day-case tonsillectomy and selected FESS, subject to facilities, workforce and anaesthetic…
- Accept suitable trust waiting-list patients for ambulatory or day-case pathways where records and investigations are in place
