The Arthur Terry School is recruiting a Cover Supervisor to take classes across the school when a usual teacher is absent. The work centres on keeping students on the set tasks, with calm classroom management and encouraging independent learning. The role also means feeding back on engagement and progress to teaching and pastoral staff. Visa sponsorship is not available, and the post can start as soon as possible.
What the job involves
- Supervising classes when the usual teacher is absent and making sure students complete the set work
- Creating and keeping a positive, calm and purposeful learning environment
- Giving clear instructions and support so students can learn independently
- Managing classroom behaviour in line with school policy and expectations
- Monitoring student engagement and progress and reporting to teaching staff where appropriate
- Working with teachers, pastoral staff and colleagues to support student achievement and wellbeing
Experience
- Experience of working with young people in an educational or similar setting
Skills & knowledge
- High expectations of student behaviour, engagement and achievement
- Building positive and professional relationships with students
- Confidence managing groups of students and keeping a calm, purposeful room
- Good communication and organisation, following lesson plans and instructions
- Adaptable and reliable, responding well to changing priorities
