What the job involves
- Assess physical and emotional condition, record vital signs and monitor recovery progress
- Administer medications, give injections, manage dressings and wound care, and assist in minor procedures
- Manage post‑surgical recovery
- Support patients managing long‑term conditions such as diabetes, asthma or hypertension
- Give guidance on immunisations, smoking cessation, weight management and preventative screening
- Provide health education and emotional support to patients and their families
- Work with doctors, therapists and multidisciplinary teams to update care plans
- Keep accurate, confidential clinical records
Qualifications
- Degree or diploma in adult nursing
Registration & licences
- Current NMC registration as a Registered General Nurse or Adult Nurse
Experience
- At least 6 months' experience in the relevant role in the NHS within the last 3 years
Skills & knowledge
- Assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating individual patient care pathways
- Proficiency in vital signs monitoring, wound management, infection control and safe medication or IV administration
- Clear verbal and written communication, including delivering sensitive or distressing news
- Prioritising competing clinical tasks and managing caseloads in high‑acuity or fast‑paced settings
