The Ground Security Operative post sits in the security team at Sumburgh Airport, run by Highlands and Islands Airports Limited, on a 35-hour shift pattern. Core work is screening: searching passengers and baggage by hand, operating X-ray equipment and carrying out outdoor patrols, often as the first contact for travellers. Shift work covers early starts, late finishes and weekends, with late calls at short notice when delays or weather disrupt flights. Detachments to cover leave at other airports are sought, and Gaelic language skills are welcomed.
