A staff nurse post on the paediatric intensive care unit at St George's University Hospital, which has ten ITU beds and five high dependency beds. The work centres on direct nursing care for children with a range of health needs, with supervision and mentoring of student nurses and healthcare assistants, plus advocacy for each child and family. Its caseload spans oncology, trauma, neurosurgery, neurology and infectious diseases, so the work is varied. Children's nurse registration is essential; newly qualified and experienced applicants are both welcome.

What’s required
Registration & licences
- NMC registration as a children's nurse (RN Child)
Experience
- Experience of assessing, planning and evaluating patient care to individual needs
Skills & knowledge
- Sound written, numeric and verbal communication
- Working with and using resources effectively within the multidisciplinary team
- Prioritising and adapting quickly, and organising own and more junior staff's workload
- Using own initiative
- Awareness of professional responsibilities
- Understanding of normal child development and the sick child

- Caring and sensitive approach to patients, parents, guardians, relatives and staff
- Motivation and enthusiasm for the speciality
Nice to have
- Practice Supervisor qualification or experience
- IV administration course
- Experience of undertaking small research or audit projects
