This is a substance misuse nursing post in the Health in Justice team at HMP Altcourse, the country's busiest remand prison. The work centres on nurse-led clinics, medication rounds, controlled drugs dispensing, reception screening and emergency response, alongside a multi-disciplinary team. It is full time on a seven-day rota with early, late and night shifts. Applicants need current NMC registration in adult or mental health nursing and experience of substance misuse, and offers are subject to vetting and security checks.
What the job involves
- Work within a multi-disciplinary team to deliver a nurse-led service and prevent hospital admissions
- Undertake medication rounds, dispense controlled medication, attend emergency response situations and assess patients
- Carry out reception screening
- Deliver nurse-led clinics to the patient group with multi-disciplinary support
- Provide evidence-based, personalised care informed by patient feedback
- Deliver non-judgemental care
- Build strong links with partners and stakeholders
- Promote best practice, clinical supervision and continuous quality improvement, embedding shared learning
- Share knowledge, skills and expertise to ensure safe care and build strong teams
Qualifications
- RCGP 1 in Substance Misuse, or willingness to undertake it
Registration & licences
- NMC registration in adult or mental health nursing
Experience
- Experience of substance misuse
- Experience of working with opiate-dependent patients
