This fixed-term Research Fellow post, running to May 2028 with a possible 12-month extension, sits in the Optoelectronics Research Centre at the University of Southampton. The work centres on growing III-V semiconductor materials by MOVPE, characterising them and supporting device fabrication for photonic devices on silicon. Early on, the postholder runs growth campaigns with external epitaxy facilities and partners, with travel, while Southampton builds its own III-V capability. A PhD or near completion and hands-on epitaxy experience are required.
What the job involves
- Grow III-V semiconductor materials by MOVPE and optimise the growth process
- Characterise materials and devices optically, electrically and structurally
- Contribute to device fabrication and integration in Southampton's silicon photonics and nanofabrication facilities
- Run growth campaigns with external epitaxy facilities and project partners during the initial phase
- Travel to partner organisations
- Help develop new research directions and collaborative opportunities
- Disseminate findings through publications and conference presentations
