Research Fellow in Experimental Fluid Mechanics

Full-Time On-site
T

This research fellowship sits in the Centre for Experimental Fluid Mechanics within the School of Engineering at the University of Southampton, working alongside PhD students and postdoctoral researchers. The core of the work is wind and water tunnel measurements, developing new diagnostic techniques and building data-driven predictive models. Projects centre on wall-turbulence, unsteady aerodynamics and aeroacoustics, including rotor and wing interactions. Fit depends on a PhD in aerodynamics or fluid mechanics and hands-on experimental experience.

What the job involves

  • Carry out wind and water tunnel measurements on wall-turbulence, unsteady aerodynamics and aeroacoustics topics
  • Develop new diagnostic techniques to access new aspects of the flow
  • Analyse data and develop data-driven models that can be used for predictions
  • Publish and present findings in relevant journals and conferences
  • Collaborate with PhD students and other postdoctoral researchers in the group

Qualifications

  • PhD in Aerodynamics or Fluid Mechanics, or equivalent experience

Experience

  • Experimental experience

Skills & knowledge

  • Excellent communication and writing skills

What’s offered

  • Generous maternity policy
  • On-site childcare facilities
  • Flexible working, including part-time arrangements
