Postdoctoral research fellowship in the School of Electronics and Computer Science, working with the Optoelectronics Research Centre on the Horizon Europe FAST project. Work centres on developing electron-beam lithography and plasma etch processes to make nanostructures that suppress amplified spontaneous emission on rare-earth doped sapphire thin-disks for next-generation lasers. The post is laboratory-based, with cleanroom access and interdisciplinary and European consortium work. Applicants need a solid grounding in the physical sciences and a self-starting approach to planning their own research.
What the job involves
- Develop scalable electron-beam lithography processes to fabricate ASE mitigation photonic nanostructures on sapphire or equivalent substrates
- Create ASE mitigation nanostructures integrated onto REDS crystals and scale them to practical dimensions
- Develop high-resolution pattern transfer and microfabrication methods using electron-beam lithography and plasma etch
- Carry out laser characterisation
- Plan and organise own research activities to produce impactful outputs
- Document and communicate research results clearly
- Work effectively within a team and across interdisciplinary research
- Organise time, tasks and responsibilities with other team members
- Work with consortium partners across Europe
Experience
- Postdoctoral research background
- Hands-on laboratory work
