This is a 12-month fixed-term publicist post in the BBC's Content division, focused on music and entertainment across Radio 1, 1Xtra, Asian Network and BBC Introducing. The work centres on handling press queries and leading publicity campaigns across print, broadcast, online and social channels, while advising presenters and senior colleagues on reputational issues. It carries a weekend on-call rota and some flexible work on other priority projects. Candidates need a proven record of high-profile campaigns and a strong grasp of pop music and entertainment news.
What the job involves
- Handle incoming press queries on schedules, news stories, advance programming and feature requests
- Lead publicity campaigns across online, print, broadcast, social media and digital platforms
- Advise senior stakeholders, programme makers, commissioners, presenters and their representatives on publicity
- Plan events and announcements and maximise positive coverage
- Work with other BBC teams and external partners on non-traditional campaigns
- Work flexibly on other priority projects across the BBC
- Take part in a weekend on-call rota
What’s required
Experience
- Proven track record of running high-profile publicity campaigns in entertainment, music, media or broadcast
- Established record over several years of creating and delivering impactful publicity campaigns
- Experience managing reputational issues and crisis communications
- Extensive experience working with presenters and their representatives
- Extensive network of national and local media contacts across print, broadcast and online
Skills & knowledge
- Accomplished writer who can tell a story succinctly
- Experience finding innovative ways to promote content, including on social media and online
- Good understanding of the music and wider entertainment news agenda, particularly pop music
- Ability to spot potential stories quickly and identify ways to generate coverage
