This role sits in the catering service of Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust, serving wards, departments and the restaurant. The post centres on preparing and serving food to patients, staff and visitors while keeping to strict food safety standards. Duties also cover cleaning catering areas and equipment to a schedule, and friendly, product-aware contact with the people using the service. Candidates need a sound grasp of food hygiene principles, which is the main test of fit.
What the job involves
- Prepare and serve food from ward menus, following portion control and presentation instructions
- Record all information relating to the food service as required
- Clean catering areas, vending equipment, light equipment and utensils to the cleaning schedule or as directed
- Keep a safe and hygienic environment for all users of the service
- Greet patients and customers in a friendly, professional manner
- Demonstrate product knowledge when enquiries are made
What’s required
Qualifications
- Reasonable level of numeracy and literacy in English
Skills & knowledge
- Knowledge of the principles of effective food hygiene
Nice to have
- Good level of general education
- Knowledge of health and safety and COSHH
