Trainee Child and Youth Care Worker post at Kibble Education and Care Centre, a temporary 12-month training programme. The work is direct, trauma-informed care for young people who cannot live at home and have been placed by a Children's Hearing or court. Workers may be based in secure, residential or community settings, on day or night shifts, with two days a week set aside for HNC study. Candidates must join PVG membership and complete Safe Crisis Management training within four weeks of starting.
What the job involves
- Work with children and young people in a trauma-informed way, tailored to each individual's needs
- Work across secure, residential or community settings
- Promote effective communication that builds trust and involvement
- Support the management of challenging behaviour while protecting young people's health, wellbeing and rights
- Work with parents, carers and internal and external agencies to plan care
- Complete administrative and allied duties, using IT
- Promote group living through planning, implementing and reviewing daily living programmes
- Complete the HNC in Social Services during the post
- Use supervision with a workplace mentor and mentoring co-ordinator, and lead own professional learning
