This post sits within the Scottish Prison Service, across its prisons, where Operations Officers maintain custody and order while encouraging people in custody to keep family contact and take up education and training. Day-to-day work covers front of house, visits, the electronic control room, patrol and prisoner reception, with the aim of helping people return to their communities as contributing citizens. Shift work follows a set roster across early, day, back and night patterns.
What the job involves
- Maintain custody and order across the establishment
- Ensure the overall functioning and security of the establishment, working as part of a team
- Prevent and manage challenging behaviour
- Provide safe and secure custodial services that help people take responsibility for their lives
- Encourage people in custody to keep contact with families, and to access education and training
- Work in front of house, visits, the electronic control room, patrol and prisoner reception
- Work shifts on a set roster covering early, day, back and night patterns
