Cumberland Council's Shared Lives scheme seeks self-employed carers to support adults aged 18 and over with additional needs such as learning disabilities, mental health needs, dementia or physical disabilities. Support can mean hosting someone in your home for days or weeks, or meeting them once or twice a week to build living skills. The arrangement can fit around other work and family, but long-term and respite support needs a spare bedroom. Approval follows assessment, including a DBS check, and can take two to three months.
