What the job involves
- Provide legal advice on planning and highways work and corporate projects
- Lead on completing S106 agreements
- Lead on completing S278 and other highways agreements
- Advise at planning committees and attend Council planning committees and working groups as required
- Prepare for hearings and inquiries
- Deal with planning appeals
- Handle planning enforcement matters
- Supervise and mentor colleagues to develop excellence within the team
- Ensure high practice standards across Legal Services
- Contribute to service planning and legal practice management
- Advise officers and elected members
Qualifications
- Qualified as a solicitor, barrister or CILEX lawyer
Registration & licences
- Current practising certificate
Experience
- At least 3 years' post-qualification experience
- Experience as a planning and highways lawyer
Skills & knowledge
- Working knowledge of S106 agreements, S278 and other highways agreements
- Working knowledge of planning committee advice, hearings and inquiries, planning appeals and planning enforcement
- Strong expertise in planning and highways law
- Confident advising at a senior level and supervising and mentoring colleagues
- Good IT literacy and ability to use electronic legal publications for research
- Effective communication and sound judgment in solving problems
