Fixed-term locum consultant post for 12 months in the upper limb team of trauma and orthopaedics at Macclesfield District General Hospital, East Cheshire NHS Trust. The surgeon will focus on shoulder and elbow work, working with colleagues to meet NHS waiting standards for clinic and day-case patients while teaching doctors and allied health staff. The post is for 10 programmed activities a week with flexible working, reporting to the Clinical Lead. Full GMC registration with a licence to practise is required.
What the job involves
- Make optimal use of all available resources by developing appropriate services and techniques
- Work with colleagues to manage patients and meet NHS standards for outpatients and inpatients/day cases
- Work flexibly to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care
- Take part in direct and planned booking initiatives
- Follow policies for communicating with patients and GPs
- Uphold the principles of clinical governance
- Contribute to the education and training of medical students, doctors and allied health professionals, including in primary care
Registration & licences
- Full GMC registration with a current licence to practise
Experience
- Specialist interest in upper limb surgery, particularly shoulder and elbow
Skills & knowledge
- Capability to perform arthroscopic and arthroplasty upper limb surgery
- Experience of teaching orthopaedic staff
- Understanding of key performance indicators and Payment by Results
- Evidence of delivering relevant change
- Time management skills
- IT literacy
Checks & eligibility
- Enhanced DBS check with barred list
- Overseas police clearance if lived or worked abroad for 6 months or more in the last 5 years
