A 12-month locum consultant clinical oncologist post at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, covering colorectal and brain tumour sites for The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust. The work centres on running oncology services for these sites with multidisciplinary teams, alongside acute oncology and cover for consultant colleagues' leave. Out-of-hours on-call is central to the role, which also involves supervising junior doctors and working across both main hospitals and community sites. Applicants need a GMC licence to practise and an FRCR (Clinical Oncology) or equivalent.
What the job involves
- Provide a comprehensive oncology service with consultant colleagues and lead oncology input into site-specialised cancer services
- Work with and support established site-specific multidisciplinary teams
- Take part in the out-of-hours service and provide acute oncology
- Liaise with surgeons, physicians and staff in other specialties across the Trust
- Cover consultant colleagues' leave
- Supervise and manage junior medical staff
- Teach, examine and accredit, and contribute to postgraduate and continuing education locally and nationally
- Carry out clinical audit, continuing medical education, appraisal and an annual job planning review
- Take part in research, including clinical trials
- Work across the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, Princess Royal Hospital in Telford and community sites
Qualifications
- MBBS, MBChB or equivalent medical qualification
- Higher medical qualification such as MRCP
- FRCR (Clinical Oncology) or equivalent for medical oncology
Registration & licences
- Full registration and licence to practise with the GMC
Nice to have
- Higher research degree in a cancer-related subject
- Postgraduate study in the specialty with an appropriate qualification such as an MSc
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via CCT (proposed CCT date within 6 months of interview) or CESR
