This Band 6 locum physiotherapist post is an assignment for the Ministry of Defence at RAF Coningsby Medical Centre, placed through Military Medical Personnel. The work centres on assessing and treating musculoskeletal patients, including sports injuries, under supervision from a Band 7 clinical specialist or Medical Officer. The role runs for nine weeks at 37.5 hours a week within a multidisciplinary team. Applicants need HCPC registration, MCSP membership and an existing right to work, as no visa sponsorship is offered.
What the job involves
- Provide independent physiotherapy assessment, treatment and management of an MSK caseload under supervision
- Manage patients referred by consultants, GPs and other healthcare professionals, including complex acute and chronic conditions and sports injuries
- Formulate and deliver individualised, evidence-based treatment programmes
- Use clinical reasoning to reach accurate diagnoses
- Work with the multidisciplinary team to maintain high standards of care
- Communicate with patients to secure informed consent and support rehabilitation, allowing for communication barriers
- Communicate with rehabilitation and unit personnel and external medical staff
- Advise the Medical Officer and other rehabilitation clinicians on specialist physiotherapy recommendations
- Write clinical reports with prognoses and discharge planning for medical professionals and, where appropriate, the military chain of command
- Support audit and research activity
- Use equipment safely, report repair needs and manage allocated materials and inventories
- Keep accurate, high-standard patient and statistical records in line with local policy and professional standards
Qualifications
- Degree or diploma in physiotherapy
- Experience working at post-graduate diploma level in MSK assessment and treatment, sports injuries, orthopaedics, mobilisation and manipulation
Registration & licences
- HCPC registration
- Membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists (MCSP)
Experience
- At least two years' post-graduate clinical experience in MSK disorders, evidenced in the CV
- Previously held a Specialist Physiotherapist Band 6 post or equivalent
Checks & eligibility
- Right to work in the UK with no restriction on hours
- PVG membership (Disclosure Scotland) or Access Northern Ireland certificate
- Satisfactory compliance requirements for the placement
