This substantive consultant post in the Women and Children's Division at Medway Hospital adds to an existing consultant team in obstetrics and gynaecology. The work covers general obstetric and gynaecology care, supporting the maternal medicine and general gynaecology services. The role carries a Category A on-call rota, with resident cover on site from 08:30 to 21:30 and off-site cover overnight, and an annual job plan. Fit depends on MRCOG or equivalent, and a place on the specialist register or CCT within six months at appointment.
What the job involves
- Provide a general obstetric and gynaecology service at Medway Hospital
- Support the maternal medicine service
- Support the general gynaecology service
- Support the existing team of consultants
- Contribute to the Category A on-call rota, resident on site 08:30 to 21:30 and off site overnight
- Agree and deliver an annual job plan following appraisal
- Swap on-call cover when annual leave overlaps a rota shift, as there is no prospective cover
Qualifications
- MRCOG or equivalent qualification
- ATSM in maternal medicine
Registration & licences
- Full GMC registration with licence to practise
- On the specialist register, or within six months of CCT at time of appointment
Experience
- Running high-risk or busy antenatal clinics
- Working independently in clinics, theatres and on call
- Gynaecological surgery
- Teaching junior medical staff
Skills & knowledge
- Knowledge of risk management and clinical governance
- Knowledge of appraising performance and dealing with poor performance
- Evidence of involvement in teaching and education
- Good leadership skills
- Communicating effectively with colleagues and patients
- Good organisational skills
Other
- Working in a multidisciplinary team
