This clinical or counselling psychologist post sits in the Department of Medical Psychology at Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust, mainly within the haemoglobinopathy team. The work centres on specialist assessment and intervention for people with sickle cell disease, thalassaemia and rare anaemias, with consultation to multidisciplinary colleagues in clinics and ward rounds. Up to seven sessions a week, including one in general medical services for patients referred by several specialties, make up the post. The role is led by a band 8b psychologist, and bank sessions may be available.
What the job involves
- Specialist assessment and psychological intervention for patients with sickle cell disease, thalassaemia and rare anaemias
- One-to-one assessment and support for haemoglobinopathy patients
- Consultation with multidisciplinary team colleagues
- Input into haemoglobinopathy clinics, ward rounds, case discussions and MDT meetings
- Attending annual review clinics in Leicester and Northampton
- Possible inpatient work and staff training
- One general medical session a week offering complex assessments, one-to-one intervention and groups
- Working with patients referred by diabetes, cardiology, obstetrics and gynaecology and neurology teams
- Possible involvement in supporting staff to offer level 2 psychological support to patients
- Working under a band 8b psychologist to develop psychology's role in the MDT
Qualifications
- Clinical or counselling psychology background
