The Healthcare Assistant post sits in the Nursing Team at Leeds City Medical Practice, a 10-partner training practice, and is offered at HCA or Senior HCA level. Core work is patient care under the Nurse Manager: health checks, ECGs, venepuncture, blood pressure and blood monitoring, and stock duties. Senior HCAs take on immunisations, B12 injections, dressings and spirometry after accredited training. Recent Primary Care experience is essential, and a car with a current UK driving licence is required for home visits.
What the job involves
- Carry out new patient health checks and make referrals to the GP
- Take and upload ECGs for immediate GP review
- Perform venepuncture
- Monitor blood pressure and review hypertension and pre-diabetes under practice protocol, referring for medication review
- Carry out urinalysis and Amber Drugs blood monitoring under practice protocol
- Support weight management and give lifestyle and basic smoking cessation advice, with onward referrals
- Deliver NHS Health Checks after appropriate training
- Chaperone patients as required
- Organise domiciliary blood and BP visits under the supervision of the Nurse Manager
- Assist with patient recall, restock clinical areas and order clinical stock
- Manage vaccine cold-chain storage, monitoring and recording
- Keep accurate patient records and communicate with patients, carers and the MDT
What’s required
Experience
- Recent experience in a similar role in a Primary Care setting
Checks & eligibility
- Car owner with current UK driving licence and business-use insurance, unless agreed by the Senior Partners

- Availability to work Thursdays and Fridays
