Maintenance Operative at Birchmere Mews Care Home, run by Avery Healthcare Group. The role keeps the building and grounds in working order through routine checks, basic repairs and fixes to equipment and systems. Most of the work is hands-on electrical, plumbing, joinery and redecoration, indoors and out, plus helping new residents set up their rooms. An on-call rota covers out-of-hours emergencies. Applicants need a year's maintenance experience or a trade qualification, plus a full driving licence and right to work in the UK.
What the job involves
- Carry out routine maintenance tasks and checks on the building, grounds, services, equipment and systems
- Apply basic fixes to keep facilities fully functional
- Carry out general maintenance and basic repairs across electrical, plumbing, joinery and building work, inside and outside the home
- Support new residents to arrange their rooms as they wish
- Ensure routine re-decoration to maintain the standards of the home
- Advise on the supply and quality of items used for tasks and order replacement goods in good time
- Provide out-of-hours emergency cover through the on-call rota
What’s required
Qualifications
- Professional qualification in a trade, which can replace the experience requirement
Experience
- At least one year in a general maintenance or handy person role
Skills & knowledge
- Knowledge of health and safety, particularly moving and handling, fire safety and COSHH assessments
- Able to adapt and cover a range of responsibilities at short notice
Checks & eligibility
- Full driving licence
