Salaried GP post at West Rainton Surgery, a teaching practice, covering maternity leave on six sessions for 12 months from February 2027. The work centres on surgery and telephone consultations, home visits, repeat prescribing and care planning, with clear notes and audit data. Clinics in diabetes, minor surgery, dermatology and sexual health sit alongside GP registrars and a practice pharmacist. Full GMC registration and a performers list entry are required, and applicants at any level of experience are considered.
What the job involves
- Surgery and telephone consultations and home visits, as set by the practice timetable
- Making autonomous clinical decisions on presenting problems, including referrals from within the practice
- Assessing undifferentiated and undiagnosed health needs
- Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness
- Developing care plans with patients in line with current protocols
- Compiling and issuing acute and repeat prescriptions
- Checking and signing repeat prescriptions and resolving medication queries
- Keeping clear, contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards
- Collecting data for audit purposes
- Completing paperwork and correspondence promptly and safely
- Working respectfully and collaboratively with the wider team
- Maintaining the highest standards of care for all registered patients
Qualifications
- MBBS or equivalent medical degree
- Certification of completion of training

- Full GMC registration
- Inclusion on the performers list
Experience
- Open to GPs at all levels of experience
