This is a permanent maintenance engineer post in the engineering team at Spire Portsmouth Hospital, covering building services, plant and equipment. The work centres on planned preventive maintenance, testing plant, keeping records on the maintenance system and overseeing external contractors on site. The role includes out-of-hours emergency on-call cover and fire-related duties, and is full-time at 37.5 hours a week. Applicants need experience in building services management, and relevant certificates or willingness to train for specialist areas.
What the job involves
- Use the networked Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
- Carry out planned preventive maintenance and test plant and equipment
- Ensure maintenance and testing comply with current Health Technical Memorandums (HTM)
- Record all maintenance information on the CMMS
- Act as point of contact for external contractors and oversee them on site under Spire policy
- Assist the Engineering Manager with specialist contractor services for buildings, building services and equipment
- Provide out-of-hours emergency on-call cover
- Assist with fire drills and fire-related activity
- Identify personal training and development needs in line with the hospital business plan
- Complete all mandatory training
What’s required
Qualifications
- Relevant certificates, or willingness to undertake specialist training in specific areas
Experience
- Experience in building services management with a track record of success
Skills & knowledge
- Some mechanical, HVAC, water and electrical knowledge
Nice to have
- Recognised apprenticeship in electrical or mechanical engineering with a C&G qualification in an electrical or mechanical field
- Experience of working in a hospital or similar setting
- Knowledge of the healthcare market
