This Commercial Manager post sits within the Rosherville Group, the Local Authority Trading Company group of subsidiary businesses run by Gravesham Borough Council. The work is to lead commercial activity across the group, including business development, revenue growth, customer relationships and new markets, in step with its public value commitments. Part time and job share will be considered, and the post works closely with the Board, council stakeholders and external partners. Candidates need public sector experience and a relevant business degree.
What the job involves
- Lead the development, delivery and optimisation of commercial activities across the Local Authority Trading Company group
- Work with subsidiary companies to drive sustainable revenue growth
- Strengthen customer relationships
- Identify new market opportunities
- Ensure commercial operations align with strategic objectives and public value commitments
- Work with the Board, council stakeholders, operational teams and external partners to maximise commercial performance
- Maintain strong governance and compliance
- Act as a trusted adviser to senior leaders and Board members
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in business development, business management, business administration or a related field
Experience
- Experience in risk management
- Experience creating successful bids
- Experience overseeing projects from inception to completion
- Experience driving operational business metrics
- Experience working with or within public sector organisations
Skills & knowledge
- In-depth knowledge of business development, financial management of projects and customer management
- Strong financial acumen, including business case development and commercial modelling
- Ability to balance commercial ambition with public value and governance requirements
Nice to have
- Experience in a trading or commercial environment
