Hyde Group is recruiting a Fire Safety Surveyor for active fire safety works across its homes and communal buildings, in a client-side role. The post covers surveys, specifications, review of remedial works and oversight of contractors against agreed standards and budgets. It is a mobile role, so regular travel across the patch is central to the work. Fit depends on a full UK driving licence and a basic DBS check.
What the job involves
- Check that active fire safety works, including fire risk assessment actions, repairs and planned or cyclical maintenance, meet legal, safety and quality standards
- Complete property surveys and prepare specifications, schedules, reports, drawings, tender documents and cost estimates
- Manage contractors and monitor performance against agreed service levels, quality standards and budgets
- Identify risks, defects, unsafe working practices and recurring issues, and recommend clear, practical solutions
- Work with customers, contractors, colleagues and external partners to resolve fire-related repairs, emergency issues and compliance concerns
What’s required
Experience
- Experience as a fire safety surveyor, or in a closely related fire or building safety role such as fire alarm engineer, fire risk assessor or fire compliance officer
- Hands-on experience with active fire safety systems, fire risk assessment actions, fire alarms, emergency lighting or similar compliance works
Skills & knowledge
- Good knowledge of fire safety legislation, building regulations, Approved Document B and relevant guidance
- Clear explanation of technical issues to customers, contractors and colleagues
- Practical problem-solving, risk management and sound recommendations
Checks & eligibility
- Full UK driving licence
- Basic DBS check
