This Facilities Management Officer post sits in the Facilities Management Team at Reading Borough Council, covering council community centres and other corporate buildings. The work centres on building compliance and health and safety checks, leading first aid response in emergencies, inducting visitors and contractors, and dealing with hirers and building users. The role is mobile, moving between sites across the borough, with some evening and weekend overtime. A clean driving licence and willingness to do physically demanding manual tasks are essential.
What the job involves
- Carry out compliance and building checks in community centres and council buildings
- Carry out health and safety and other checks
- Lead in emergency situations, including first aid
- Induct visitors and contractors and provide site access
- Facilitate specialist repairs so they are carried out safely
- Provide customer care to hirers and building users
- Carry out some basic repairs in corporate buildings
What’s required
Experience
- Experience of working with the public
- Compliance or safety-related experience
- Practical experience of statutory compliance tasks in corporate buildings

- Solid understanding of health and safety
- Ability to undertake basic repairs and maintenance
- Flexibility to work across different sites
- Comfortable with manual work
