This Speech and Language Therapist post is based at Wellesley Hospital, a 101-bed mental health hospital run by Elysium Healthcare. The work centres on assessing and treating communication and swallowing difficulties, leading therapeutic groups and managing a designated caseload for men and women with complex mental health needs. It suits a clinician with mental health experience who will work within a multidisciplinary team and bring dysphagia caseload experience. HCPC registration is needed, and all appointments are subject to a DBS check.
What the job involves
- Deliver specialist assessments and interventions for communication and/or swallowing difficulties
- Manage a designated caseload, planning and evaluating interventions in line with care plans
- Lead therapeutic group sessions and provide individual interventions where required
- Manage complex cases, including those involving cultural and linguistic differences
- Develop and implement strategies for effective caseload management
- Provide specialist knowledge in acquired communication disorders, swallowing disorders and mental health-related communication needs
- Support service users to develop and enhance their communication skills
- Build one-to-one relationships, encourage engagement and support individuals on their recovery journey
- Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to support recovery-focused care
- Undertake audits and contribute to service development and research initiatives

- Evidence of continuing professional development

- Experience of managing a caseload involving assessment and treatment of dysphagia
