This six-month post with 18 Week Support Limited supports oral consultants and oral surgeons in clinics and surgery. The work centres on assisting with dental and surgical procedures, from preparing rooms and instruments to aftercare for patients. Shifts run on weekdays or weekends between 8am and 6pm, as single days or full weekend blocks, with ongoing sessions available. Applicants need a dental nursing qualification, GDC registration and at least two years of dental experience.
What the job involves
- Assist dentists, oral surgeons and clinicians during dental and surgical procedures
- Assist with dental extractions and oral surgery, under local or general anaesthetic where required
- Act as scrub nurse during surgery where trained and competent
- Prepare patients for treatment, giving support and reassurance
- Provide post-operative support to patients
- Prepare clinical rooms, surgical equipment and instruments, keeping rooms stocked for each list
- Clean, disinfect and sterilise instruments and surgical equipment
- Maintain high standards of infection prevention and control
- Record and maintain accurate patient and clinical documentation
- Follow health and safety, safeguarding and infection-control policies
- Dispose of clinical and surgical waste safely and correctly
- Work within a multidisciplinary dental and surgical team while keeping patient information confidential

- Relevant dental nursing qualification
Registration & licences
- GDC registration, where applicable
- NMC registration
Experience
- At least 2 years dental experience
- Previous experience as a dental nurse in a dental, oral surgery or maxillofacial setting
- At least 1 year NHS experience, in a substantive role
Skills & knowledge
- Good knowledge of infection prevention and control procedures
- Working effectively within a multidisciplinary team
- Good communication and interpersonal skills

- Surgical or oral surgery experience
- Availability to work weekday and weekend shifts depending on service requirements
