A casual lead steward post for RHS Glow, the winter light trail at RHS Garden Bridgewater, running from late November to early January. The role leads the steward team on the night, keeps the duty manager informed, and makes sure visitors are welcomed, kept moving evenly through the gardens, and kept safe in an incident. Shifts are evenings of about six hours, at least four nights a week on varying nights, and the work is outdoors in all weathers. Weekend and peak holiday availability is required.
What the job involves
- Maintain contact with the site duty manager during Glow, reporting issues, health and safety concerns and absences
- Make sure stewards take and return from their breaks on time
- Brief stewards on their position for the night, what is expected and the emergency procedures
- Welcome visitors, answer their queries and ensure a positive visitor experience
- Monitor and manage visitor flow so it stays evenly spread across the event space
- Ensure health and safety regulations and training are followed at all times
- Help implement incident protocols, such as in the event of a power failure
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Work regular shifts, including weekends and peak holiday dates
