Priory Hospital Southampton, a residential mental health service for adults with acute and eating disorder needs, is recruiting a consultant psychiatrist who will also act as Medical Director for the site. The clinical work centres on acting as Responsible Clinician for up to 10 inpatients, leading the ward multidisciplinary team and supervising a speciality doctor. Alongside this, one day a week is given to site-level medical leadership, governance and staffing, with a stipend for the director element. Section 12(2) approval and Approved Clinician status are required to apply.
What the job involves
- Act as Responsible Clinician for up to 10 inpatients and manage own clinical caseload
- Lead the ward multidisciplinary team and clinically supervise the Speciality Doctor
- Provide medical leadership across the site, supporting clinical governance and patient care
- Lead recruitment, induction, appraisal and revalidation of medical staff
- Oversee medical staffing, including out-of-hours cover and annual leave planning
- Work with the Hospital Director, Clinical Directors and HR on medical staff performance and governance matters
- Chair and contribute to Site Clinical Governance meetings and manage significant clinical issues and concerns
- Represent clinical expertise and innovation with commissioners, partners and other stakeholders
- Take part in the Medical On-Call rota and contribute to out-of-hours management
Qualifications
- MRCPsych or equivalent qualification
- CCT or equivalent
Registration & licences
- Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register
- Section 12(2) approval
- Approved Clinician status

- Clinical experience relevant to the speciality

- Clinical knowledge and skills relevant to the speciality
- Ability to work within and lead a team
