This is a consultant post in acute medicine at Croydon University Hospital, based in the Acute Medical Unit of Croydon Health Services NHS Trust. The consultant assesses and stabilises acutely unwell medical patients, starts evidence-based treatment, and moves them on to specialist wards across the Trust. The 46-bed unit comes with a rota of weekday and weekend on-call cover, including Acute Medical Unit and GIM commitments. Full GMC registration is required.
What the job involves
- Provide 12-hour weekday on-call duties, 5 in 9 weeks
- Provide weekend on-call cover on the Acute Medical Unit, 1 in 9
- Cover GIM weekend on-call commitments, once a year
- Assess and stabilise acutely unwell medical patients admitted to the Acute Medical Unit
- Start rapid, evidence-based treatment for patients on the Acute Medical Unit
- Refer patients on to specialist medically zoned wards elsewhere in the Trust
- Provide early input and treatment as the senior clinician for Acute Medical Unit patients
Qualifications
- MB BS or equivalent
- Or dental qualification registrable with the GDC (MFDS or equivalent)
