This 12-month fixed-term post sits in the Interventional Radiology team at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. The nurse provides specialist care to patients before, during and after diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including conscious sedation and managing deteriorating patients. Alongside clinical work, the role includes teaching and mentoring students, healthcare support workers and junior staff. Candidates need a year's nursing experience; prior interventional radiology experience is welcomed but not required.
What the job involves
- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient-centred nursing care for patients undergoing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures
- Deliver specialist care including pre-assessment, conscious sedation, medication administration, post-procedure recovery and management of deteriorating patients
- Support complex patients and assist with procedures and recovery
- Monitor patients, maintain radiation safety, and ensure safe handovers and transfers
- Advocate for patients and promote dignity, compassion and respect
- Take part in audits, quality improvement and research, and contribute to local policies and guidelines
- Teach, supervise and mentor students, healthcare support workers and junior staff
- Educate patients, relatives and carers to support informed decision-making
- Maintain professional accountability to NMC standards, Trust policies, clinical governance, safeguarding, infection prevention and control, health and safety, incident reporting and mandatory training
- Promote a culture of safety, professionalism and continuous improvement
- Maintain personal competence and professional registration
- Work with nursing, medical, radiography and allied health colleagues to ensure seamless care and a good patient experience
