A Verbal Behaviour Tutor post at The Avenue School, a Rise Partnership Trust school for pupils with autism and complex needs that is expanding to 104 places. The work centres on teaching language development through Verbal Behaviour, a behavioural approach that looks at why pupils communicate and uses signing, communication books or devices as well as speech. Teaching sits within the multi-agency support each pupil receives, and the school wants staff with behaviour management experience who are keen to train in the method. Visa sponsorship is not available.
What the job involves
- Teach language development using the Verbal Behaviour approach
- Identify the communication areas pupils find difficult and plan how to teach them
- Deliver teaching in the context of each pupil's multi-agency support

Experience
- Experience of positively managing behaviour
Skills & knowledge
- Positive, energetic and creative approach to teaching and learning
- Keen interest in developing Verbal Behaviour skills
- Interest in evidence-based teaching methods, or in Verbal Behaviour or ABA
Checks & eligibility
- Enhanced DBS check
- Pre-employment checks
- Declaration of unspent and certain spent convictions
Nice to have
- Experience or knowledge of autism and/or severe learning difficulties
