Bank Cancer Nurse Specialist post in the cancer services team at Nuffield Health Cheltenham Hospital, working ad hoc to meet the hospital's needs rather than a set weekly pattern. The core of the work is assessing patients, building tailored care plans and acting as key worker across the on-site diagnostic and surgical cancer service, including clinics and multidisciplinary meetings. It sits within a consultant-led service with a breast cancer focus that is expanding into other specialities. Fit depends on NMC registration and post-registration experience.
What the job involves
- Support the on-site diagnostic and surgical cancer service with in-depth cancer knowledge and skills
- Assess patients' needs and monitor their conditions, then provide tailored treatment plans and care
- Assist consultants in clinics and multidisciplinary team meetings
- Act as key worker and advocate for each patient, building their care needs and preferences into care planning
- Offer personalised, holistic support at key points in the cancer pathway
- Work with the MDT co-ordinator to join up care across medical colleagues, allied health professionals and external providers
- Signpost patients to community cancer support services
- Support clinical data collection and audit to maintain governance and accreditation
- Work within national and local protocols
- Work as an effective team member, building team and interdisciplinary relationships
- Maintain specialist cancer knowledge through continuing professional development
- Use advanced communication skills in all patient interactions
