This Deputy Shop Manager post supports the Shop Manager in running a busy charity shop for Dorothy House Hospice Care. Core work covers daily shop operations, leading and training volunteers, presenting donated stock and deputising for the manager. Part-time, two days a week with alternate weekends, it needs no retail background but is physically demanding. Good Maths and English and strong organisation decide fit.
What the job involves
- Supporting the Shop Manager in the day-to-day running of the shop and creating a welcoming environment for customers and donors
- Acting as customer champion, using initiative and continuous improvement to deliver the best possible retail experience
- Helping to deliver high standards across the shop floor and backstage areas, supporting volunteers so every shopper has a positive experience
- Supporting, motivating and engaging the volunteer team, helping them feel confident, valued and well supported
- Assisting with training volunteers to prepare goods for sale, give excellent customer service and keep high standards of cleanliness and presentation
- Assisting with sorting, pricing and presenting donated stock
- Deputising for the Shop Manager when required, ensuring the smooth and safe operation of the shop
- Supporting the recruitment and onboarding of new volunteers
Skills & knowledge
- Good standard of Maths and English
- Excellent team player with strong people skills

Nice to have
