A permanent, full-time classroom teacher post at John Wilkinson Primary School and Nursery, initially teaching a mixed Year 1/2 class. The work centres on planning for children at different starting points and teaching early reading through systematic phonics, with Little Wandle in use. The post also carries a Reading Champion role, helping to shape a new library and reading space. The post is not open to ECTs, and visa sponsorship is not available.
What the job involves
- Teach the mixed Year 1/2 class, planning from children's starting points
- Sequence learning and balance support and challenge so every child makes strong progress
- Teach early reading through systematic synthetic phonics using Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised
- Act as Reading Champion, building a reading culture across the school
- Use assessment and adaptive teaching so pupils with SEND and disadvantaged pupils can access ambitious learning
- Help shape the new library and reading provision
- Contribute ideas, expertise and creativity to the school's development

Experience
- Experienced classroom practitioner
- Not an early career teacher
Skills & knowledge
- Understanding of mixed-age teaching
- Planning and sequencing learning across different starting points
- Assessment and adaptive teaching for SEND and disadvantaged pupils
- Expertise in systematic synthetic phonics
- Experience of Little Wandle, or strong phonics expertise with commitment to develop it quickly
- Knowledge of reading beyond phonics, including fluency, comprehension, vocabulary and reading for pleasure
