This hotel services assistant (housekeeper) post sits within Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust (AWP), supporting nursing staff on wards and in departments. The work combines cleaning to NHS standards, including bedrooms, clinic rooms and kitchens, with preparing, presenting and serving patient meals. It is a hands-on role with constant distractions and regular contact with service users who may show disturbed or challenging behaviour. Experience of a health setting and a caring, compassionate approach are essential.
What the job involves
- Clean ward and departmental areas to NHS specification, including bedrooms, clinic rooms, kitchens, corridors and sanitary areas
- Follow infection control and national colour coding guidance
- Carry out termination and isolation cleans in line with Trust policy
- Complete cleaning records and scheduled deep cleaning programmes
- Prepare, present and serve patient meals under nursing supervision
- Receive and check food deliveries, recording chilled and frozen temperatures
- Monitor and record food, fridge and freezer temperatures, reporting unacceptable readings
- Regenerate chilled and frozen meals to food safety guidance
- Collect and store waste according to the hospital waste disposal policy
- Receive and store clean linen and change screen, cubicle and window curtains
- Operate and maintain cleaning equipment and report defects
- Report pests and areas of concern to the hotel services office or nurse in charge
