The Mercure Newcastle George Washington Hotel Golf & Spa is an independently owned 4-star hotel, golf and leisure complex located on the outskirts of Newcastle upon Tyne. We are currently looking for a Night Porter and we need reliable people who speak with a smile and deliver a warm welcome. Flexibility is key to our business culture and we aim to help everyone get the work/life balance right.
You will be the public face of the hotel, expected to be an expert in many areas. You should have good knowledge of our facilities and services, understand billing and messaging, and even advise on local tourist attractions. Hotel experience is essential for this role, along with a good general education and excellent customer service skills.
General Scope and PurposeTo be totally customer focused by consistently delivering excellent customer service with an informed, friendly and effective approach. To provide professional, friendly and efficient Night Reception and Duty Management service to all guests of the hotel, whilst achieving maximum revenue and guest satisfaction. To maintain standards of hospitality as laid down by hotel and company policies and procedures.
Responsibilities:- To complete Night audit and balance daily revenue.
- To welcome, check in and check out hotel guests, assisting with luggage.
- To ensure all early morning calls are received and newspapers ordered and delivered to rooms.
- To ensure the hotel cash handling and credit procedures and report any discrepancies to the night supervisor immediately.
- To operate the hotel switchboard, answering it to the company standard, ensuring that all calls are correctly handled and processed.
- To prepare and deliver food and drinks as per the 24 hour menu specification.
- To ensure all night charges for food and beverages are correctly posted to the guest rooms.
- To up sell all hotel facilities within the hotel to guests.
- To ensure the security of guest valuables, departmental keys and floats, adhering to company procedures at all times.
- To deal with guest enquiries, either by fax, telephone, letter or verbally.
- To have a presence around the building from 10:45pm until 7:15am, acting upon any suspicious persons on premises or in grounds of the hotel.
- To set up and break down meeting and event rooms to the required standard when required.
- To ensure all public areas, function rooms, restaurant and reception are clean, tidy and vacuumed each night.
Food Hygiene Certificate would be an advantage. In return, we will give you gym membership, access to a pension scheme, free uniform and hotel discounts worldwide upon completion of six months service. Applicants must be aged 18 and over as serving alcoholic beverages is part of this role.
