About The Role
The Payroll Administrator will support Payroll and HR, with a focus on accurate data, systems and processes.
You’ll need strong Excel and numerical skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to meet deadlines.
With training and support, you’ll develop your payroll knowledge, take on more responsibility, and gain broader HR experience.

As a Payroll Administrator, your key responsibilities will be
- Payroll;
- Prepare and maintain accurate payroll data, including starters, leavers, contractual changes, overtime, absence, holiday and additional payments.
- Check payroll inputs carefully, identifying discrepancies, missing information or anything that doesn't look right.
- Use Excel regularly to organise, manipulate and check employee and payroll data.
- Maintain accurate information across HRIS, payroll and time & attendance systems.
- Ensure payroll information is complete, accurate and submitted in line with payroll deadlines.
- Support the preparation and processing of multiple payrolls, working to strict deadlines and following established processes.
- Carry out payroll checks, comparing payroll outputs against HR and employee records and investigating discrepancies.
- Support employee payroll queries, resolving straightforward questions and escalating more complex issues where appropriate.
- Develop your knowledge of payroll processes and, with training and support, take increasing responsibility for elements of the payroll process.
- HR Administration;
- Manage day-to-day employee lifecycle administration, including onboarding, offboarding, contractual changes and employee records.
- Coordinate onboarding processes, ensuring new starter information is complete, accurate and entered into the relevant systems on time.
- Support leaver processes, ensuring all relevant information is accurately recorded and communicated to payroll.
- Administer employee absences and leave, ensuring records are accurate and relevant information flows through to payroll.
- Prepare contracts, letters and other HR documentation accurately and in line with agreed processes.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records across HR and payroll systems.
- Respond to basic HR queries and provide general administrative support to the HR team.
What we are looking for
- Previous experience in an administrative, data, finance, operational or similar role where accuracy and attention to detail were important.
- Good numerical ability, with confidence working with numbers, checking calculations and identifying discrepancies.
- Confident using Excel, including sorting, filtering, organising and checking data.
- Comfortable working with detailed information and following processes accurately and consistently.
- Strong IT and systems skills, with the ability to learn new systems quickly.
- Able to manage deadlines, prioritise tasks and maintain accuracy when handling multiple pieces of work.
- Good written and verbal communication skills, with a professional and approachable manner.
- Understands the importance of confidentiality when handling personal and employee information.
- Previous experience in Payroll, HR, Finance, Accounts or another data-focused administrative role.
- Experience using HRIS, payroll, time & attendance or other business systems.
- Experience working with timesheets, variable hours, overtime or other payroll-related data.
- Some understanding of HR administration or the employee lifecycle.
- Previous experience supporting payroll processing.
- An interest in developing a career in Payroll and HR.
- Studying towards, or an interest in studying towards, a relevant qualification such as CIPP or CIPD.
