The MENTOR Initiative (‘MENTOR’) is a humanitarian organisation specialising in disease control and improving access to healthcare in emergency settings currently across countries in Africa, the Middle East and South America. MENTOR is the leading organisation dedicated to the control of malaria and other vector-borne diseases in complex, challenging settings. MENTOR delivers large scale disease control interventions working with communities affected by humanitarian emergencies caused by conflict and natural disasters. We also help build the technical and operational capacity of local and international partners to incorporate medium- and long-term disease control systems into their operations and country strategy.

MENTOR is now recruiting a Compliance Officer based in HQ to support organisation-wide compliance, governance and internal audit functions under the direction of the Governance, Risk and Compliance Manager.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting compliance with donor requirements
  • Maintaining internal controls
  • Assisting with risk management
  • Contributing to internal audit processes

Job requirements:

  • Experience in compliance, risk management, internal audit and safeguarding/PSEA
  • Familiar with NGO and humanitarian working environments and standard procedures
  • Familiar with donor compliance knowledge (for example, US Government, United Nations, Global Fund and other institutional donors)
  • Language: fluent in English, further languages (Arabic, French, Portuguese) would be an advantage
  • Strong ethics
  • Able to deal effectively with confidential and sensitive matters
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills
  • Good attention to detail

Tasks and responsibilities include:

  • Compliance and Internal Controls
    • Assist in monitoring compliance with donor requirements
    • Support tracking of compliance issues and follow-up actions
    • Liaise with Country Programmes to gather compliance information
    • Coordinate compliance training and awareness
  • Governance Support
    • Maintain repository of organisational policies and protocols
    • Support sharing of updated governance documents
    • Assist in logging and tracking governance breaches
    • Coordinate governance-related training and awareness
  • Risk Management Support
    • Maintain the HQ risk register
    • Support monitoring of risk mitigation actions
    • Help analyse risk information from Country Programmes
    • Coordinate risk management training and awareness
  • Internal Audit Support
    • Assist in planning and conducting internal audits
    • Collect documentation and support control testing
    • Prepare draft audit findings
    • Track implementation of audit recommendations
  • Fraud Prevention Support
    • Support proactive organisational fraud and aid diversion prevention
    • Promote anti-fraud and whistleblowing mechanisms
    • Coordinate fraud prevention and awareness training
  • Safeguarding/PSEA Support
    • Support proactive safeguarding against sexual exploitation, abuse and harassment
    • Collate and ensure production of in-country safeguarding risk assessments
    • Aid country teams in the production of culturally appropriate Safeguarding/PSEA packages
    • Coordinate safeguarding training
