Are you a passionate Speech and Language Therapist who values a neurodiversity-affirming approach? We invite you to join our innovative and compassionate multidisciplinary therapy team at The Mendip School, a highly successful 4‑19 special school based in Shepton Mallet.
We are a forward-thinking and innovative therapy team comprised of an Occupational Therapist (Therapy Team Lead), Speech and Language Therapist, Music Therapist, Drama Therapist, Art Therapist and Therapy Support Workers. We strive to be neurodiversity affirming and trauma informed in our approach. We work collaboratively with class teams and run a number of whole class interventions. Our work environment fosters creativity, joint working, current practice and a flexible approach.
The appointed therapist will be responsible for providing assessment, advice and interventions for our students. We are looking for a therapist with an interest in working with our upper primary and secondary age students who are primarily Autistic with speech and language needs. The role provides the opportunity to carry out individual, small group and class-based interventions using evidence-based approaches within the school day. The post will be in addition to the current Speech and Language Therapist and will allow us to build on and expand the current provision.
The postholder will have the opportunity to support the exciting, continued development of our growing therapy team provision including whole school projects for AAC, interoception, Gestalt Language Processing and therapy group interventions. The post is flexible and there is the opportunity to work collaboratively with the current Speech and Language Therapist to share the responsibilities based on experience and areas of interest. The postholder will have the opportunity to work jointly on projects with other therapists. The therapy team work collaboratively with teaching staff and the appointed therapist will deliver training to staff as required. We offer robust CPD opportunities and access to regular external clinical supervision.
