We are looking for a passionate and experienced Sales & Events Manager for The Derby, a well-known meeting and events space in the industry.

The venue consists of 6 modern meeting rooms, a large events space called Studio One, and a rooftop terrace, hosting a wide range of events from large corporate meetings to private encounters. The Head of Events will have a background in either a 4- or 5-star Hotel, Conference/Events operation, or within a corporate establishment and will be a natural leader with the ability to drive the sales department and achieve set targets throughout the business.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Enjoy dealing with a mix of clientele, both corporate and non-corporate
  • Have a hands-on approach to the business
  • Be very well-organised with a strategic mindset
  • Possess strong business and financial acumen
  • Have a solid client portfolio

The Head of Events will be directly responsible for The Derby's business development, collaborating with Hotels’ operations, delivering exceptional customer service, and managing the events team. Candidates should have at least 3 years’ experience in events operations, reactive and proactive sales, and a proven track record of high conversion rates.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Working alongside the Events Manager in managing and converting events enquiries
  • Conducting reactive sales: communicating with clients over the phone, via emails, arranging viewings, and negotiating pricing
  • Conducting client site visits alongside the team
  • Conducting proactive sales calls and meetings, and participating at networking events
  • Maintaining and resourcing new corporate business, establishing strong relationships with all clients
  • Preparing weekly sales reports and analysing departmental performance
  • Using the company PMS, Guestline, for tracking, allocations, and payments
  • Ensuring all function rooms are clean and set up correctly according to event requirements
  • Briefing & training the events team regarding menus, functions, and safety procedures
  • Maintaining excellent communication within all departments
  • Running the department proactively and independently

To be considered, candidates must:

  • Work under pressure calmly, courteously, and methodically
  • Have an excellent command of English, both verbally and written
  • Be super well organised and very efficient
  • Be experienced in a similar position
  • Be hands-on

This role requires superb organisation and communication skills, in-depth events know-how, and the ability to ensure all departments are adequately briefed and trained. Leading by example, our ideal candidate will have a hands-on approach to the business and great attention to detail. This is a magnificent opportunity to join an exciting and growing team.
