The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency enhance and improve the health of millions of people every day through the effective regulation of medicines and medical devices, underpinned by science and research. We are currently looking for an Animal Technician Manager to join our Research and Development function within the Scientific Research and Innovation group.
The post holder's main responsibilities relate to the operation and management of studies within the Specified Animal Pathogen Order 4 (SAPO4) facility in addition to lower containment studies. The role holder actively contributes to the management, performance, and practical delivery of the in‐vivo functions to support the scientific activities of the Agency including the care and welfare of a variety of animal species, including non‐human primates (NHPs) housed in the biological services facility in support of the Agency programmes of work that require in‐vivo models.
The successful candidate will have:
- Experience of supervising/managing a discrete area within an animal laboratory facility.
- Experience of organising, supervising, and training staff to meet operational, quality and health and safety requirements.
- Considerable experience within the animal research field including on a range of species.
- Minimal professional qualification of Membership of the Institute of Animal Technology (MIAT), or relevant equivalent (Registered Animal Technician status (RAnTech) is desirable).
- Good knowledge of ASPA legislation, and relevant sections (in detail) of the Guidance, along with how the regulations are implemented in practice.
