ELECTRIC METER TECHNICIAN
London, ON
Join a high-energy team where you’ll work hands-on with advanced metering systems and energized equipment up to 750 volts. Under the guidance of the Electric Meter Supervisor, you’ll play a key role in ensuring accurate, safe, and compliant energy monitoring to our customers while staying at the forefront of smart grid technology. From cutting-edge metering infrastructure to fieldwork that keeps the lights on, this is your chance to make a real impact. While preference will be given to candidates who hold a Journeyperson Meterperson Certificate of Registration, we are also willing to consider applicants who are committed to obtaining this certification. WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Work on energized cable and/or equipment up to 750 volts.
- Work in close proximity to high voltage cable and/or equipment.
- Write reports, keep records, and requisition material.
- Install, repair, prepare, evaluate, configure, upgrade and replace electric meters and associated communications and instruments in accordance with Measurement Canada regulations and London Hydro standards and policies.
- Connect and disconnect customer services at the meter or by using/supporting remote disconnect technology.
- Install, test, operate and maintain smart meter / RF communication systems (including but not limited to pinging, mpass tuning, or encryption operations)
- Install, test, operate and maintain interval meter communication systems to include but not limited to – POTS, TCP/IP, WiFi, Cellular & RF based systems.
- Inspect, verify, and seal all electric meters in accordance with Measurement Canada approved QMS.
- Initiate processes and assist in maintaining records as defined in the Quality Management System (QMS) procedures.
- Operate Validation Testbench to install meters and run test scripts to verify metering and communications functionality.
- Install and operate recording and testing instruments to monitor system disturbances.
- Analyze and test accuracy of meters and associated instruments on customer premises to verify measurement and billing.
- Inspect electrical installations performed by outside contractors.
- Organize and classify meters coming into and going out of the shop.
- Use various pieces of test equipment.
- Collaborate with customers, contractors and other departments to complete job procedures.
- Perform analysis of equipment needs, report non-registering or unmetered situations and onsite requirements.
- Generate, modify, update, maintain and preserve all meter documentation as required by Measurement Canada.
- Assist in the training of apprentices.
- Use personal computer and associated software proficiently.
- Adhere to all Occupational Health & Safety Act rules and regulations, the IHSA’s EUS rulebook, and London Hydro work practices. Report all injuries and near misses immediately. Perform all activities in a manner that protects the health and safety of yourself and others. Wear personal protective equipment as required. Understand and comply with London Hydro Health and Safety policies.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING
- Graduate of Community College in an Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technician program or equivalent.
- Driver\’s License Class G (adriver\’s license and an ability to drive is required in order to discharge the essential duties of the position).
- Journeyperson Meterperson Certificate of Registration.
- Manufacturer and MEARIE Metering courses.
- Ability to obtain Aerial Device Qualifications.
